Objectives:

     Construct a CNC Router capable

·        Of cutting a wing panel of 850mm and root of 400mm

·        with precision down to 0.1 mm

To get required accuracy

·        Linear Bearings on all axis

·        Keep the moving mass including threads as low as possible as not to introduce inertia issues

·        Keep the friction forces as low as possible

·        Eliminate backlash where possible via the use of Ball Screws and Ball Nuts

·        Keep the G of G as low as possible as to not create undue lever effect

·        Protect where possible the bearings from dust and swarf

High Level Construction

My 3 axis motion control system is from Maxnc.  To find out more please have a look at their site: http://www.maxnc.com.

The stepper motors supplied are 'NEMA 23' SINGLE STACK MOTORS.
The transformer in the backgrounds converts 240volt to 110 volts to suite the Maxnc USA system.

The software supplied is DOS based and some DOS skills are required to set the system up.

That's Allan helping out by cutting the side cheeks. The jigsaw uses a rocking motion when cutting to help with improve cutting speed.
